Psychotherapy

Process oriented psychology allows for a journey which offers insight into your everyday experiences, dreams, and essential aspects of nature. In natural systems everything is interrelated and interconnected. Quantum physics shows that a single part will affect all other parts through the field.

This relational field suggests the interconnectedness of everything. Working holistically in therapy facilitates a grounded experience of enquiry. Navigating unknown terrain often requires a guide along the way. Walking side by side in this person lead approach means that we only work with what is ready for exploration.

Using a holistic approach to health allows for all parts of yourself to be heard, recovered and integrated.

FAQs

What is psychotherapy in Australia?

Psychotherapy is a holistic engagement that focuses on the mental, emotional, relational or spiritual health of a human being.

It is useful when psychological, developmental, relationship and wellbeing issues arise in life. A psychotherapist engages with a person or group in a process of working together to build understanding and acceptance of how the person makes meaning of their life.

Together we create solutions to barriers and challenges. https://www.pacfa.org.au/common/Uploaded%20files/PCFA/Documents/Definition-of-Psychotherapy.pdf

How much does it cost?

Therapy rates start at $160 for an hour and vary during an initial consultation which is 90mins, and subsequent appointments or couples therapy. I also provide a sliding scale for fees, so please ask if relevant to .

As a PACFA registered therapist I cannot provide Medicare rebates at this stage.

How many sessions will I need?

This will be guided by you and your process. This may also be based on your changing needs and will be assessed at intervals. Generally speaking it’s about gaining tools and getting on with living life. Based on work and change I see with clients often around 12-21 sessions within a calendar cycle provides supportive change and integration.

Is there any difference working in person or via Telehealth?

Typically working in person provides a different experience and is based on personal preference. The clinical space provides safety, confidentiality and privacy as a holding container.

When working via Telehealth from home, you will need to consider privacy, a stable internet connection. Mixed delivery of therapy can combine both solutions as needed.

What is the difference between psychotherapy and psychology?

Psychology training in Australia usually focusses on Mental Health skills training and in particular cognitive and dialectical approaches. However, many psychologists extend their training and experience to utilise additional approaches such as psychodynamic work, transpersonal and integrated well-being approaches.

Psychotherapists focus on assisting their clients to explore and understand aspects of themselves and their experience. They assist their clients to understand how past experiences influence and shape their current responses to life events. The focus is on the here and now response, the past simply provides the platform for understanding.

Psychotherapy is related to its cousin, psychoanalysis, but is informed by modern interpersonal and relational models of working with clients. Psychotherapists draw from modern neurobiology and a range of evidenced based methods of working.
